Tim Glynn discusses his experience with the PSA screening and what patients should know before deciding to have the screening. Tim Glynn, a lawyer from Setauket, NY, was 47 years old in 1997 when he went to his primary-care doctor, troubled by a vague feeling of being down. After his physical exam, Glynn was sent to have his blood drawn. Along with thyroid and cholesterol level testing, the doctor ordered a PSA test. A week later, Glynn returned to hear the results. His PSA was elevated. He was told to get a biopsy as soon as possible. This is his personal story as to what he believes patients should know about the PSA test. He is not a medical professional and his opinions are his own. The Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making believes that PSA screening should be made in the context of a shared medical decision.
