When should You Have a Prostate Biopsy?

This video reviews the latest information about when a man should have a prostate biopsy. Learn about the indications and potential risks of this procedure

Why should I neuter my male dog..?

When…
-With unaltered dogs, the risk of testicular cancer is less than 1%
-if done before 1 year of age, significantly increases the risk of osteosarcoma (bone cancer); this is a common cancer in medium/large and larger breeds with a poor prognosis.
- increases the risk of cardiac hemangiosarcoma by a factor of 1.6
-triples the risk of hypothyroidism
-increases the risk of progressive geriatric cognitive impairment
-triples the risk of obesity, a common health problem in dogs with many associated health problems
-quadruples the small risk (<0.6%) of prostate cancer
- doubles the small risk (<1%) of urinary tract cancers
-increases the risk of orthopedic disorders
-increases the risk of adverse reactions to vaccinations
--Removing sexual hormones will change his metabolism and make your dog more sluggish, resulting almost inevitably in weight gain. Also, muscle tone will decline after castration, and the classic result of this is a fat dog in poor muscle tone that ends up having a cruciate ligament rupture in the knee.
-Virtually all malignant prostatic tumors in dogs occur in castrated dogs. Castrating your dog puts him at risk for one of the worst cancers he can get. While you remove the very slight risk of testicular cancer in castrated dogs, that's a small matter; the incidence of testicular cancer is so minimal. Also, almost all testicular cancers in dogs are benign. If we find a testicular tumor, we normally remove the testicle with the mass and leave the remaining one intact.
-Many male dogs that are not fixed are not aggressive to other males, do not mark their territory, or hump, or show dominance.

I, personally believe it SHOULD be. Whether I smoke it or not, statistics show that the crime rate would significantly go down… Not to mention the government could tax the hell out of it and make a huge profit off of something that doesn’t harm you near as badly as alcohol. A six-pack of beer kills more braincells than an ounce of weed. Yeah, it’s probably not the best thing for your lungs, but it doesn’t contain nicotine or cyanide like cigarettes do, but guess what? Beer and cigarettes are both legal. All of the “anti-pot” campaigns and PSA’s on television make me mad as well… When you smoke pot, you get lazy and hungry. You don’t want to jump in your car and drive 120 mph because you feel invincible. You want to sit on your couch, veg out, and watch funny movies.
Weed has been prescribed medically not only to cancer and glaucoma patients, but also to some pregnant women who are in high risk pregnancies. It lowers their blood pressure and stress level b/c stress can be very harmful to a baby especially during a high risk pregnancy.

That’s all the information I’ve got, but I would love to hear everyone’s feedback on this. I do personally think it will be legalized before I die. I’m only 22, so I guess I’ve got a while to see!
In response to vote_usa_first:

I COMPLETELY agree with you. (Sorry for my emphasis, but I need to make my point!) My state (OK) just passed a bill to build another county prison b/c the other one is overcrowded and guess why… Nearly 86% of the people there on drug related crimes. If they have an addiction, they should be put in a rehab facility. They will never get help otherwise b/c getting drugs in prison is a lot easier than it sounds.

so what would you consider high?mine was 19.5 and i am 50.what should i ask the dr or do.?

how many tissue samples should be taken during a prostate biopsy?

should this person have a prostate biopsy?

A 45 year old with no family history of prostate problems has a high psa and free psa test. No problem with the digital exam. Goes to a Urologist has a digital exam. No problem. Possibly a asymetrical prostate. Doctor orders a biopsy based on the psa test only. Doesn’t recommend another psa test. Is this a bit radical.
also, no urinary problems. no problem peeing, etc.
